THE CURSE OF LYING

THE CURSE OF LYING

Lying is a great evil and a deadly sin. Many vices in our society flourish due to lying. Lying is apparently a single sin, but it generates and promotes many sins. No one trusts a liar, no one believes in his statements. A habitual liar is considered not trust worthy even if he speaks the truth. Thus a liar is not respected in this world and is condemned to Hell in the world hereafter.
The evil of lying and its condemnation has been stressed many times in the Qur'an and this warning, which appeared many times, should be enough in which Allah Ta'ala says, "the curse of Allah is on the liars."

Allah Ta'ala also says in the Holy Qur'an,

"And so lay the curse of Allah upon the liars." (Surah Aal e Imran, verse 61)
It means lying is a curse and a cursed person is away from the Blessing and Mercy of Allah Ta'ala. In most of the Ahadith, lying has been condemned and a liar is declared as unfortunate and cursed which is clear from the Ahadith mentioned below.

A Believer Cannot Be a Liar

Hazrat Safwaan bin Sulaim radiallaho ta'ala anhu narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam was asked, "Can a believer be a coward? He said, "Yes, he can be coward. Then it was asked whether a believer could be a miser? He replied, "Yes, he can be a miser", it was then asked whether a believer could be a liar? He replied, "No, a believer cannot be a liar." (Imam Malik, Mishkaat)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! A believer is always in search of the Mercy of Allah Ta'ala. If he is a true believer, he will never go near lies as he does not want to lose the Mercy of Allah Ta'ala and does not want to be cursed. Realise this fact, a person who says La Illaha Ilal Laho Muhammad Ur Rasool Allah, if he tells a lie then he puts the authenticity of the Kalima in doubt as well. Our behaviour and code of action reflects our faith and if we are liars, we are not trust worthy, and therefore not able to serve and spread our religion.

It is mentioned in this Hadith that a believer can be a coward, he can be a miser but he cannot be a liar. Lying is a great risk to our faith, it is a must for us to save our faith and in order to save our faith, it is very important to save ourselves from lying. We need to present ourselves as slogans of truth, the followers of the true religion, the undoubtable Qur'an and Ummah of a Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam, who was declared Saadiq even by the infidels of Makkah. (Saadiq means one who always speaks the truth). May Allah Ta'ala enable us to speak the truth and always stay away from lies. Ameen

Angels Go 1 Mile Away

Hazrat Ibn e Umar radiallaho ta'ala anhu narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, "When a person tells a lie, the angels run one mile away." (Tirmizi)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! The angels are every where to defend human beings. They are present in the gatherings of zikr of Allah Ta'ala and Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam. They are also present in the streets and the market places. When a person tells a lie, his mouth raises such a bad odour that the angels run one mile away. If Allah Ta'ala's angels do not wish to stay near a liar, how will the Mercy of Allah Ta'ala remain close to him? If the Mercy is not near, where will the blessings come from? We have to purify our habits and stay away from lying and making false statements. May Allah Ta'ala enable us to stick to the truth and stay away from lies. Aameen.

Lying is a Sign of Hypocrisy

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr Ibnal Aas radiallaho ta'ala anhuma narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, "A person having four qualities is a confirmed hypocrite. If some one has one of these qualities, he has one of the qualities of a hypocrite until he leaves it. They are, when some thing is trusted to him, he breaches that trust, when ever he speaks he tells a lie, when he makes a promise he breaks it and when he fights with someone he uses vulgar and abusive language. (Bukhari and Muslim)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! The hypocrites have been discussed in this Hadith and they are condemned in the Qur'an in very strict words. The Holy Qur'an says, "Undoubtedly, the hypocrites are in the lowest section of Hell." (Surah Nisa, verse,145)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! All these four signs of hypocrisy are present in the majority of the Muslims today. The first is breach of trust. May Allah Ta'ala protect, but people do not consider breaching trust and taking someone else's things as a sin anymore. Similarly, breaking a promise is evident from business dealings to all aspects of our lives; it has reached epidemic proportions. The third thing, lying, has become an art form, to see who is best at it. (Ma'azallah). Using vulgar language has also become common amongst Muslims and people do not consider it a great sin. Even after being guilty of all these things, everyone claims to be a true believer. If these things are present in us, there is no one that is more misguided than us because the qualities of a hypocrite are running wild in our bodies and minds. May Allah clean our hearts of hypocrisy and lying and may He make us true, pure and real Muslims. Aameen.

The Biggest Lie

Hazrat Ibn Umar radiallaho ta'ala anhu narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, "The biggest lie is that a person describes a thing as if he has seen it but in fact he has not seen it."(Bukhari Shareef)

Lying Is The Biggest Sin

Hazrat Abu Bakr radiallaho ta'ala anhu narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, "Should I tell you the greatest among the deadly sins," I said, "Why not? Ya Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam." He said, " Associating partners with Allah Ta'ala, disobedience of Parents, (when he was saying this he was lying in a relaxed position, suddenly he sat straight up), and said, "Beware of lying"... he kept on repeating this for such a long time that we started hoping that he would end this topic and talk to us about another topic." (Bukhari Shareef, Vol 1)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! The way Rasool Allah sallal aho alaihe wasallam sat up when he mentioned lying is to warn us and make us aware that this is a deadly sin and make sure you stay away from it. Stay away from lying and see how many blessings rain down on you from Allah Ta'ala.

I have great hope that we will all save ourselves from lying from this day on, and may Allah Ta'ala bless us with the guidance and strength to follow the right path. Aameen.

Hazrat Luqman's Advice

Hazrat Luqman alaihis salaam advised his sons, "Never lie even if the lie seems as delicious as the meat of a bird, because the evil of even a small lie destroys the liar."

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! Hazrat Luqman alaihis salaam is advising his son's to never lie. Nowadays, parents do not bother to teach their children to speak the truth and to avoid lying; rather, they themselves force and teach their children to lie. What a great example was used by Hazrat Luqman alaihis salaam in that the taste of meat is momentary. Similarly, the taste of lying is also temporary. May Allah bless us with the strength of focusing on the permanent pleasures of the world hereafter, and may He save us from lying and all other deadly sins. Aameen.

The Biggest Dishonesty

Hazrat Sufyaan bin Asad Hazri radiallaho ta'ala anhu narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, " The greatest dishonesty is that you tell your brother something and he thinks you are speaking the truth, but in fact, you are lying."(Bukhari Shareef, Abu Daud)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! There are very few people who are not guilty of the things that are mentioned in the Hadith mentioned above. We should try to save ourselves from this dishonesty and all forms of dishonesty. There is benefit in this for us and it is that Allah ta'ala will save us from grief in both worlds, and will bless us with great respect and grace. May Allah Ta'ala guide us all. Aameen.

The Blessings of Not Lying

The Leader of Aulia e Kiram Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani radiallaho ta'ala anhu, left his mother and joined a caravan for Baghdad. The caravan reached a city in Hamdaan safely. When it left from there and headed for a mountainous region, sixty robbers attacked whose leader was Ahmed Badwi. The people in the caravan did not posses the strength to fight them and the robbers snatched all the valuables from them and sat down to distribute it amongst themselves. Sheikh Abdul Qadir was standing peacefully at one side. No one noticed him. Seeing that he was a child they did not search him. One of the robbers asked him as if he had anything. Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani told him fearlessly, "Yes, I have forty dinars" The robber did not believe him and walked away. Another robber asked him the same question and he gave the same reply. This robber also did not believe him, laughed and walked away.

The robber went to where his leader was and the stolen articles were being distributed. He mentioned the words of the young man and the leader told him to bring the young man before him. Hazrat Ghauth E Azam radiallaho ta'ala anhu was taken to the leader of the robbers and he asked him, "Tell me the truth, do you have any thing valuable?" Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani radiallaho ta'ala anhu replied, "Yes! I have already told your comrades that I have forty dinars." The leader of the robbers asked, "Where are they?" Hazrat Abdul Qadir radiallaho ta'ala anhu replied, "They are stitched in my clothes under my arm pits." The leader of the robbers checked and found the dinars there. He was shocked to see the boldness and bravery of this young boy and was stunned to see that the young boy was so fearless and confident. He asked, 'Who made you so brave"?

Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani radiallaho ta'ala anhu said, "When I was leaving home, my respected and elderly mother advised me to always speak the truth and not to lie. Why would I disregard the advice of my mother for 40 dinars?"

The leader of the robber felt the impact of these words right on his heart, his hardened heart started melting and tears started gushing forth from his eyes which cleansed the darkness and evil that was in his heart. He said, "O child! You obeyed the advice and words of your mother so obediently and I have been disobeying the commands of my Lord for so long." After saying this he cried for so long that he was inconsolable. He then fell at the feet of Sayyedina Ghauth E Azam radiallaho ta'ala anhu and repented from a life of robbery and torment. Upon seeing their leader, his men also fell at the feet of Ghauth E Azam radiallaho ta'ala anhu and said to their leader, "You were our leader when we were robbing people, now you are our leader in repentance as well." (Seerat E Ghauth E Azam)

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam's beloved devotees! We should take many lessons from the incident mentioned above. Not just by saying, "We will never leave Ghauth E Azam (Ghauth ka daaman nahi chhorain gey)", but by adopting his character we will prove that we love him. We need to show our love, sincerity, respect and loyalty to Sayyedina Ghauth E Azam radiallaho ta'ala anhu by following in his blessed footsteps. May Allah Ta'ala guide us to follow the true teachings of the Friends of Allah ta'ala. Aameen.
